Evaluation Task 5

Since our thriller has an aspect of sci-fi in it, our primary audience will be between the ages of 16 to 25, it will also be targeted at male audiences mostly due to the presence of supernatural creatures and violence in this particular film. As a team, we didn’t want to target “Equinox” at a younger audience because we wanted people to appreciate the slower pace of the events happening in a thriller as well as notice the details which will eventually contribute to the meaning of the film.

First, we built up the tension by using the alarming sounds when the titles were rolling to lure the audience but we also used the passing of time as the motif, which was indicated by an alarm going off and character constantly looking at his watch.

Our main visual effect which we consider the “eyecandy” in the film, is the portal. Its main purpose is to intrigue the audience and transfer them into another world where anything or everything is possible.

Our secondary audience should be between the ages of 26 to 35. The reason we believe this age group is our secondary audience is because story wise our film is interesting and different. This audience is mature enough to really appreciate the films vision and the motif. It is also highly likely that they will be able to emotionally connect and understand our main character Chris Clark who is not a typical hero like the handsome Clark Kent from Superman or as wealthy as Bruce Wayne but he is curious, real and persistent which in its self is humbly admiring.

We are planning to appeal to our secondary audience through the unhurried shots of the countryside and the character’s vehicle at the beginning of the opening sequence which would be more agreeable with those who appreciate the detailed storytelling in the film.
