What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?
Lionsgate
Lionsgate is commercially successful independent film and television distribution company that distributed over 100 films. The first reason why Lionsgate should distribute our film is the financial stability of a company. After releasing their highest grossing film: The Hunger Games, the company is looking for the next big science fiction movie and "Area 51" could be what the management is looking for. Also, our film needs a big company like Lionsgate to back up the financial side of things as to the continuation of our movie requires a lot of detailed special effects the budget between $20 and $30 million which is an average budget for Lionsgate distributed films. Another reason why "Area 51" matches the criteria is the stylization of the film. Just like the lately distributed film "Cabin In the Woods", Area 51 has a theme of "unknown" which needs to be explored by a "fresh-faced" actor. Those two films also have an already established fan base of people who read and know a lot about conspiracy theory, it has a special target audience with which a company like Lionsgate works and understands really well since it doesn't have a profound marketing strategy and rather consecrates on a specific group of people. It is also important to mention that Lionsgate as a company leaves space for film producers and directors for a lot of creativity and frankly doesn't interfere in comparison to other big and successful companies. Our liberty is particularly valuable to us as we need a lot of it when creating the rest of our film.
However it could also be a low concept film and get
produced by a company like Warp Films which supported "Four Lions" that was
a critically acclaimed movie. Both of these film's ideas are
based on the visual shock and targets the same primary
audience and therefore I think it could work as well.
