Got our actor!

Today we finally made our decision on who would be capable of playing our character. It was decided that Ted Jackson would be a great contribution to our team and although he doesn't necessarily have all the qualities we required like facial hair, we are still lucky to have him as our actor
Ted Jackson as Chris Clark

Second Production Meeting with Matt

On Wednesday Emma,Bo,Seb and I had our second meeting with Matt with whom we were discussing the possible to green zone our Area 51 portal. During this meeting, Matt pitched to us another way to do a portal which would give an interesting spin to our story. Therefore, it was decided that it would be a better decision to go with Matt's idea of creating a sucking, black hole type portal ( that holds inside Area 51) that our main character will discover but won't be able to enter as its closing and disappearing too fast. We thought that as an opening title, it will achieve its main purpose:leaving the audience wanting more better and will affect the viewers more. Although at first, I was a little disappointed with the end being completely different from our original idea, I believe now that this brand new chimera of a portal will be fresh for the audience as well as achieving the "unexpected" effect. The audience will observe main character standing in front of an empty space on a cliff, pondering deeply about the events that just occurred...
Here are some examples of our portal that with Matt's guidance we will be able to edit into our thriller

Scouting for Location

On Friday 30th of November, Seb and I went with our Media Studies teacher Adam to look for locations for our thriller.
This shot of lake is quite spooky and mysterious like our character so I thought this location would compliment it and be an alluring part of an establishing shot.
This Location and the clear sky remind me of a "Donnie Darko" parallel universe scene which serves our crew as an inspiration. I also like the shading of the ground.A clear difference between the dark and the light is established in this photograph. This can be taken as a metaphor for our main character and the plot of the story.
This would be the establishing shot of our thriller. It gives the audience the information that our individual is by himself in the ghostly wilderness of Surrey in his van and nobody knows that he've been there. It will also be the last shot to represent the secretive disappearance of our character.
This was photographed inside the van. This photo helps me to imagine what the main character will be doing, feeling and seeing during his waiting time in the van. Overall, scouting for location was very useful and now I can see better the vision for our thriller. It will be amazing. I know it and I feel it. I can't wait to start shooting it with my peers!

Ideas for Thriller's poster

Lately we have been discussing the distribution and the presentation of our film. Poster is a great tool of marketing and at reaching our target audience. Since our film is scientific and quite mysterious, we will adapt the colors of beige to represent the sandy Nevada desert as Area 55 is located there and the title will be colored in red to represent the thrill and the danger the charter will face in the movie. Since our character is "fresh-faced" and not known to many audiences, the poster will concentrate on the concept of the film, putting actors on the background like in posters "Monsters". The titles will be placed in a similar way to "Cloverfield" with the name of the film being on the bottom and placing a catchy phrase that vaguely intrigues the audience on the top of the poster.

Sound for our thriller

This morning, on Youtube, I stumbled upon the famous Inception soundtrack created by Hans Zimmer. I thought it was so empowering but at the same time it was melodramatic and I had a lot of sympathy for it. The melody made me think of our main character, his life, the choices he makes and how his final decision will change his life forever. He is a hero in our story, but a tragic hero. This heartfelt music would suit our sequence consummately.

Thriller Research: Adjustment Bureau

When researching film "The Adjustment Bureau" one of the techniques you notice straight away is the door portal. I like the way portal can take you anywhere and after the first two times director introduces it, the audience stops questioning it and just goes with it. It feels like a liberating thought to me. It is also very enjoyable and has a deep meaning if you think about it enough.

Second Production Meeting with Matt

On 14th of November, 2012 we had our second meeting with Matt discussing our final idea for our thriller opening sequence. New details were introduced for example in order to make "making steps" scene more interesting and spooky, our main character will be holding tape measurer while counting the steps. This will give the audience more information who the character is. Also characters actions have to be precise in order to deliver to viewers the importance of his mission.
