-       John Williams scores the film

Action

-       The opening titles of Steven Spielberg’s “Catch Me If You Can” are a startling blend of style and narrative invention that straight away catches the eye of an audience.

-       The animation that gives an atmospheric look. It compliments the story to come of the notorious mid-century con man Frank Abagnale and the FBI agent who tries to catch him.

-       The opening sequence is stylized and has silhouetted figures of Abagnale and the FBI agent interacting with the titles themselves. The titles are stretched and are referencing some moments the film’s story.

-        From the opening sequence, we learn that Abagnale is portrayed first as a pilot, then as a doctor and later as a businessman. The agent on the other hand is shown in action of pursuit and gaining ground. The audience feel the forwarding movement that is achieved by chase and the left-to-right trajectory, with Abagnale slipping down corridors and passing through transformative walls.

-       The music sets the opening sequence to a 1960’s jazz era with the hushed, tip-toe effect score.

-       The film is represented by two huge production companies such: Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures as well as by Scott Rubin Productions and Yellow Bird Films. By observing that “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” film involved four production companies, I can tell that this film had big budget and was expensive to make.

-       The film has big stars starring like the two leading actors Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.  During the opening sequence, in total eight actors were mentioned.

-        The film was directed by highly acclaimed David Fincher

-       It was produced by Scott Rubin

-       The film was based on the popular Swedish novel “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” that was written by Stieg Larsson.

Action

-       From the beginning of the opening sequence, the mood is set as the audience sees the freaky and dark objects being filled with black ooze. This makes the opening sequence very powerful and unforgettable.

-       Black ooze was placed into every scene. It unifies the sequence.

-       The director picks out general and specific moments from the book trilogy that are demonstrated visually. Those moments are: a pressed flower, wasps, the instruments of hacking, main character’s Lisbeth Salander’s father being set on fire and the dragon alluded to in the title.

-       Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” was a spooky opening soundtrack. It gave a feeling of fundamental-ooze fever dream.

-       The opening sequence also has 3-D scans of principal actors Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig to add more edginess and style to the opening sequence.

Dead Man's shoes

                                         Dead Man's shoes Opening Sequence

-
A Flashback
-
        - The movie opens with the titles of four British companies that have supported the film and thirteen titles of actors.
-
 -      -   From the opening titles, we already start feeling the mood of the film. It is filled with nostalgia and sadness. This effect was achieved by the old, rusting music and the instruments such guitars. The movie is set in a forest as two men trying to get through them. It is clear that they are on a journey. Long road can be taken as a metaphor that the characters have still a long way to go.
-
                 - We can tell that one of the men have served in the army (by looking at his army bag)
-
-The movie is set in a rural England

-                    - The flashback represents the closeness of the men and how they were raised together. That is how the audience knows the two characters are brothers. It is what’s going on in one of the characters head because the other brother is actually dead and is like a ghost. We know this because of the lack of conversation and the walking distance between them.
